Environmental Poster Competition

March 23, 2001

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association winners of the 2001 FCCA Foundation for the Caribbean Children's Environment Poster Competition are 16 old Samal Duggins from St. Kitts and 11 year old Khamiya Henry of Trinidad. Samal's poster entitled "Mother Earth is Dying" depicts mother earth as a woman's face divided into halves.  One half portrays a prosperous and thriving earth with trees and people united to maintain the environment.  The other half illustrates the death of the earth due to fire, war, and pollution.  Khamiya's poster entitled "Stop! Look! Think!" uses raw materials to produce a 3D effect.  Khamiya represents her country Trinidad as two halves with an environment that is vibrant, beautiful and rich in natural resources, and on the other half she illustrates an environment in turmoil.  Entries were received from nine Caribbean nations.

Sponsored by the Association's charitable arm, the FCCA Foundation for the Caribbean, the Environment Poster Competition was created to promote environmental awareness in the Caribbean region, as well as serving as a platform to utilize students' creativity in identifying new and innovative Eco-friendly ideas.
