Jamaica Training A Success
July 31, 2001
The Florida-Caribbean
Cruise Association (FCCA) recently completed a series of successful training
sessions in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
This is the second time in the past twelve months that the FCCA
has conducted programs in Jamaica.
Understanding
the cruise industry and its dynamics is vital in today's tourism mix,
especially in view of the competition that the Caribbean regions tourism
industry faces from other
regions of the world. The
FCCA, utilizing its research and information capabilities, has developed
a series of training seminars that are available to all Caribbean destinations.
"We are dedicated to the service industry and taxi drivers in Jamaica
and throughout the Caribbean," said Michele M. Paige, FCCA President. "As an organization we are committed
to assisting our Caribbean partners in ways to provide better customer
service.
Three different programs were offered in each city, "Service Excellence"
(featuring "The Guest" and "The Difficult Guest")
and "Caribbean Taxi Pride."
Both portions of "Service Excellence" were offered to
everyone involved in the cruise tourism and "Caribbean Taxi Pride"
was customized to address the needs of the taxi drivers who work with
the cruise ships.
Each session consisted of three main sections:
–
A statistical overview of the cruise industry.
–
How to make guests feel more welcome in your country.
–
How to identify and handle difficult guests.
"We had over 200 participants in each city, that is certainly an
indicator to the cruise industry of how committed the people of Jamaica
are to cruise tourism," Paige continued.
The Jamaica sessions were organized by William Tatham and Sharon Williams
of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB).
The FCCA training seminars provide the industry's destination partners
with valuable information regarding today’s cruise passengers, their
wants, needs and habits, enabling governments and businesses to maximize
the impact of cruise tourists in their country.
Currently the FCCA has three training programs: Service Excellence,
Cruise Passengers Equal Profits
and Taxi Pride.
