FCCA Training Program Gaining Momentum
August 7, 2001

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) recently completed a series of successful training sessions in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and St. Lucia.

Understanding the cruise industry and its dynamics is vital in today's tourism mix, especially in view of the competition that the Caribbean regions tourism industry faces from other regions of the world.  The FCCA, utilizing its research and information capabilities, has developed a series of training seminars that are available to all Caribbean destinations.
The FCCA's three different training programs were offered in each country: "Service Excellence" (featuring "The Guest" and "Satisfying the Difficult Guest"), "Caribbean Taxi Pride" (customized to address the needs of the taxi drivers who work with the cruise ships) and "Cruise Passenger Equal Profits."

"We are dedicated to the service industry and taxi drivers throughout the Caribbean," said Michele M. Paige, FCCA President.  "As an organization we are committed to assisting our Caribbean partners to provide better customer service."

Each session consisted of three main sections:

             •      A statistical overview of the cruise industry.
             •      How to make guests feel more welcome in your country.
             •      How to identify and handle difficult guests.

"We had between 300 and 400 participants in each country, that is certainly an indicator to the cruise industry of how committed the people of Jamaica, Grand Cayman and St. Lucia are to cruise tourism," Paige continued.

The FCCA training seminars provide the industry's destination partners with valuable information regarding today's cruise passengers, their wants, needs and habits, enabling governments and businesses to maximize the impact of cruise tourists in their country.
Currently the FCCA has three training programs: Service Excellence, Cruise Passengers Equal Profits and Taxi Pride, approximately three hours each in duration.
